Our God Is An Awesome God

He is awesome in every way! His person, His power, His provision. Nothing is too hard for Him. This great God tells us in Jeremiah 33:3 to “Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and might things”. The Hebrew word for call is “qura”. It means, to call aloud, to cry out audibly.

 A great God does great things!  Things we can’t even grasp at this present moment are available to us if we simply learn to cry out to Him in prayer. This is so simple, and yet, so profound.  God will release His power to us as we pray.  Friend, God is a God of order and design.  This is the acceptable protocol that God Himself has laid out for us.  If we do our part, call out to Him, He will do His part, answer, and show us great things.  It is so simple and yet I believe we have overlooked this aspect of prayer for a long time.  God wants to hear our voice. 

Psalm 138:3, the psalmist tells us that he cried to God, He answered him, and strengthened him. Our Heavenly Father wants to strengthen us for our tasks.  All He asks from us is to call out to Him in fervent prayer. Have you ever noticed the little secret of the prayer of Jabez for blessing in I Chronicles 4:10?  He called on the God of Israel, his prayer was verbal, vocal, out loud.  The Bible says, “God granted him that which he requested.” 

Simple, yet profound. What has worked in the past, still works today.  Why not put God, our Great God, to the test.  Pray out loud to Him. You just may see great and mighty things come to pass in your life.

Shopping Season

Our daughter was shopping at a wholesale store recently and sent my wife this text, “Insane how packed it is on Wednesday afternoon!” My wife’s reply to her was, “Tis the season”. The busy shopping season has begun. It’s a great time of the year for retailers.  During this season as Christians, we mustn’t venture out without asking the Holy Spirit to fill us with patience and give us the strength to maintain a Christ-like spirit.   This is a shopping season when many people are searching for, hoping for, something that will satisfy a craving, fulfill a longing, or give them a thrill. For some it will be a party, alcohol, a new car, new clothes, a new boyfriend/girlfriend perhaps. For some, their happiness comes from a sale at the mall, and their many purchases. It’s a season when many are looking for a “high” which turns out to be only temporary.   Friend, there is a “high” you cannot buy. Trusting God

You’ve never really given a problem over to God until you completely trust Him with the outcome. Too much of our faith in prayer is tied to getting God to do what we think is best. We rejoice if God does what we ask or if He responds as we think He should. What if God has other plans? Is He any less faithful?   The truth is, God sometimes does have plans that differ from our own agenda.   As we pray, we must be willing to accept whatever God determines best.   That’s never easy, but it’s a place we must come to in our understanding of the Holy One.   We all know the story of the three Hebrew young men, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, and the fiery furnace.   The story is found in Daniel chapter 3.   An order had gone out from the Babylonian king that everyone in the province was to bow down to the golden idol, and anyone who refused would be thrown into a fiery furnace.
