What To Pray

 

Continuing with some thoughts about intercession – how can we pray for others more effectively?  Rather than just saying as we pray, “Lord, I pray for Bob tonight”, what if we asked for some specific things like:

• Spiritual growth (2 Peter 3:18)

• Wisdom, knowledge and understanding (Colossians 1:9, James 1)

• To endure temptation (James 1:12)

• To be faithful to God, His Word, His Work (Matthew 25:21, I Corinthians 4:2)

• To trust the Lord in all things (Proverbs 3:5 & 6)

• To be honest and ethical - protected from evil (Matthew 6:13)

• To develop godliness, generosity, humility and courage (2 Peter 

• 1:5-8)

• Relationships and influences guarded (Proverbs 1:10)

• Convicted of any and all sin (John 16:8)

• Guided by truth (John 16:13)

• For overall health, prosperity and fruitfulness (3 John 1:2)

• For boldness to share the gospel (Acts 4:31)

• To be filled with the Spirit (Ephesians 5:18)


Get the idea? We can intercede in a rich and powerful way if we will learn to pray for specific things in regards to the needs of others.

  Crying out to God is not some magic formula that requires God’s attention.  God is sovereign, He can and does as He pleases.  However, God stands by His Word when He makes a promise (2 Timothy 2:13, Numbers 23:19). When God says, “Call unto Me and I will answer thee…” (Jeremiah 33:3), it’s like “if you will – I will”.  There are many such conditional promises in the Bible. For example, in Malachi 3:7 & 10, God says, “return unto Me and I will return unto you, saith the Lord of Hosts… bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse… I will open the windows of heaven.” In other words, you do something and I will do something. Hello everyone, Pastor Bruce here with an important announcement regarding our daily devotionals known as “The Pastor’s Pocket.” After today, these will be discontinued.   I am so thankful to each of you who have enjoyed reading these devotionals and I trust the Lord has encouraged you through each one. I challenge you, as Peter does, to “grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 3:18).   It is my desire that you will continue in your own personal study of the word of God. Learn the Word, Love the Word, Live the Word!   There may come a time when I can write these again, but for now, I will devote my time to other areas of ministry and ways to serve Him! “To HIM be all the glory both now and forever. Bat Boys

In Major League Baseball, each team has a Bat Boy. They are most often young kids who retrieve bats after a player has hit the ball and taken it to the dugout.  They also retrieve other items, shin guards, elbow pads, etc. These young boys have no name on their jersey and the cameras almost never show them while they work during the game. They go unnoticed, but their tasks are important. They are there to serve the players.   This past summer as I was watching a game and as I really took notice of what the Bat Boy does, some scriptures came to mind. Romans 12:10b, “in honour preferring one another;” Philippians 2:3b says, “in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.” Other scriptures I encourage you to read: I Peter 5:5 and Proverbs 3:34.   Someday in heaven I think we will meet a lot of Christian people who, in a sense, were “Bat Boys” for Jesus.
